着物や帯を着て楽しんでいただくのが一番だと思っています。
けれど、今の暮らしの中で着物を身にまとう機会は少なくなりました。
成人式や冠婚葬祭のために大切にしまわれているもの、思い出とともに眠っているもの——
そんな着物や帯をお持ちの方も多いのではないでしょうか。

保管場所や扱いに悩み、業者に手放したり、処分せざるを得ないこともあります。
実は、私自身も同じ悩みを抱えたことが、リメイクを始めたきっかけでした。

着物や帯は、解けば元の一枚の布（反物）に戻ります。
昔の人は、それを仕立て直しながら、最後まで無駄にせず使ってきました。
今で言う「サステナブル」な文化です。

何でも簡単に作れて手に入る時代だからこそ、
人の手の技と心が込められた日本の文化を忘れてはいけないと感じています。

古い着物を解くたび、その織りや染め、縫いの技術に感動します。
機械生産では決して生まれない、二つとない美しさ。
たとえ古くても、今の形に合わなくても、眠らせておくのはもったいない。
だからこそ、日常で使える作品に形を変えて制作しています。

丁寧に解き、洗い張りや湯のしを経て、再び新しい姿へ。
全く同じものはひとつとしてない《唯一無二の作品》に生まれ変わります。

作品について
眠っている着物や帯を形を変えて新たな命を吹き込み、
日常で長く愛用していただけるよう制作しています。

また、作品の幅を広げるために制作した一点物も、
オンラインショップや出店イベントを通してご紹介しています。

これからも、一つひとつの素材と向き合いながら、
想いを込めて丁寧に制作してまいります。

✨The Concept Behind My Kimono Remake Work

I believe that the best way to enjoy a kimono or obi is to wear it.
However, in today's world, opportunities to wear kimono in everyday life have become rare. Many people have kimonos and obi passed down from generation to generation, or kept carefully for special occasions like coming-of-age ceremonies or weddings — now quietly resting with precious memories attached.

Sometimes people are unsure how to store them, and after much thought, may end up selling them to secondhand dealers — or even, sadly, discarding them.
I faced the same dilemma:
What should I do with all the kimono and obi I had?
That question is what led me to begin remaking them.

When a kimono or obi is taken apart, it returns — with minimal cutting — to its original form: a single roll of cloth (tanmono). In traditional Japanese life, garments were often taken apart and resewn to fit the wearer again and again, wasting nothing. In modern terms, they were sustainable long before the word existed.

Even in today's convenient world, where mass-produced items are easily available, I believe we must not forget this culture — the culture of Japanese craftsmanship and spirit.

Each time I unravel an old kimono or obi, I’m deeply moved by the beauty of the weaving, dyeing, and sewing — all done by hand.

Unlike machine-made products, these are true one-of-a-kind pieces. No two are the same.

Even if their patterns feel outdated, or they can no longer be worn as-is, it would be such a waste to leave them unused — let alone throw them away.

So I began transforming them into something new: pieces that can be worn or used in daily life, giving them a new future through remake.

At Lily-with Mints, I honor the handcrafting skills of those who wove, dyed, and sewed these garments. Every step — from unpicking to washing and reshaping — is done by hand, with care and intention. In this way, each piece is reborn as a truly unique work.

Our hope is that kimono and obi that have been sleeping quietly will live again — cherished and used in everyday life.

Nothing brings me more joy than seeing these beloved textiles find a new purpose.

In addition to commissioned remakes, I also create original remake items to expand the range of designs I offer. Rather than letting these stay in storage, I make them available for purchase through our online shop and at select events.

I will continue to work with care, thoughtfulness, and deep respect for the materials — one piece at a time.
